Honduras –The Curfew

This was kind of amusing but wouln´t have been had I not been around to write about it…

So on Wednesday we shoot all day in La Esperanza, Honduras about three hours from the capitol Tegucigalpa. Alfredo and I basically stay up all night trying to send our story back via the interwebs and this satellite thing we use. No dice somethings wrong with it. So we sleep for three hours and then it dawns on me to try my uncle´s internets cafe (my family is from this particular town). We head over and sure enough ten minutes later the story is in DC! yay!

We leave for Tegucigalpa. There´s a few military checkpoints but they wave us through easily. We get here to our hotel around 3p. Then at 5p the OAS secý shows up for his meetings. We had no idea this was happening here. So we scramble, shoot video of his arrival and the chaos and whatnot. It was packed full of media in the lobby and outside the lobby. So much so that both elevators broke and no one could get up or down. I somehow discovered a service elevator and took that up to the meeting place but could´t really see much. I went back down and one of the elevators was working so we sent our cameraman Alfredo “kickass” DeLara to shoot video. No problem, he comes back down and he sends it via the interwebs. Then the secý decides to hold a press conference an hour later. Alfredo mans the camera for that while another just arrived cameraman sets up for a liveshot. Then they switch off because Alfredo and I have to go do an interview and get it done before the curfew. But, then they ask for another liveshot and he has to go set it up outside. He knocks that out and then we have to pack everything and go on our interview.

The location for the interview is secret. It´s with a protest leader who is being watched by the police. So we get to the location traveling with the interview subject and knock it out. By the time we finish it´s 945p. Not good. Curfew is at 10p.
